We seem to hear more and more these days about alien abductions, life after death experiences, etc. My thoughts on the subject are not to judge what you can't verify.
I believe that these people truly believe these things have happened to them and who am I to decide that they are confused or just imagined this event or had a dream that seemed very real. Who are we to say that just because we haven't experienced the same spectacular occurence, that these people are strongly mistaken in what they believe they experienced?
I never want to be a person that makes a judgment about someone else's life and spreads my own beliefs to try and prove them inaccurate or wrong when I could quite possibly be the one who is mislead or mistaken.
We should all keep an open mind to all things uncertain.

I understand your reluctance to judge another's experience, but I think that any experience can be usefully subjected to scientific scrutiny. Otherwise we fall into a morass of superstition and ignorance.

I guess I don't pay enough attention to the news. I've not heard more about alien abductions nowadays than in the past. I do agree with you that those who spout such encounters (mostly) truly believe they happened.
Patois - I think you're right about not necessarily hearing more about it these days than in the past. Maybe because of the media and movies, it seems to be to a topic that can get more coverage now.
Whether this stuff really occurs is not something I've witnessed but I'm not dismissing others' claims either.
It's interesting and seems important to me that each is entitled to his/her own belief. I'm always leery of being pigeonholed and exiled for my thoughts - great post!
I agree.... tolerance of another's experiences, and opinions albeit not in accordance with our own spells respect!
