Jacket

I've been on the hunt for a new jacket for Cody and this has not been an easy task because I've have found that the boys are very particular about the style of their jackets. I think my problem in this search is that I was looking at coats which are too heavy and thick for their taste. So... to Cody's disappointment, Ray bought Hayden a new jacket this past weekend and because Cody told Ray he already had a jacket when Ray asked him about it, Cody once again, did not get a new jacket. The jacket he was referring to was a hand-me-down that started with Dylan (who is now 19 years old) and not one of the boys have ever wanted to wear it as it was passed down to each one. I think Cody didn't feel like he could say he hated the jacket just to get a new one, so he sat quietly and very disappointed that he missed this opportunity for a new jacket.

So when I got back from my trip to Raleigh, I went on an all day search for this new item. Cody found a near perfect jacket at Old Navy. I must say, this kid was incredibly happy to have this jacket and he put it on immediately when we got home after all the tags had been removed. He then took his evening shower, redressed, and put the jacket back on to wear for the rest of the evening. I didn't know whether to feel sad that I took so long buying this item or happy that he loved it so much.

Awww.... just look at him all happy with his new purchase!

And, it really says a lot about him that he didn't want to hurt his dad's feelings.

I'm glad you read through the lines and saw that he really did want a new jacket.

My son wears his new hoodies just about 24/7. I ask every 4 days or so if he wants me to wash it for him. It's the new old baby blanket that he used to carry around 24/7 (and still has hidden in his room).

That's funny - my boys don't really care about their clothes so it is just an issue of REMEMBERING their jacket.

That's so sweet and so sad all at the same time.
Take heart with the fact that he's the kind of kid that can be made so happy by something as simple as a coat.

I am SO with you on the jacket angst. I have always had hand-me-down coats/jackets for my girls and have, in my no nonsense way, thought... why would I go drop $ on a jacket when we have these perfectly warm (if not stylish) jackets. Well, it took me 3 winters to "get" that Kami would prefer to freeze her tootsies off than wear those coats. On one hand, I don't want to spoil her, on the other hand, I want her to stay warm!!! So, I went to buy her a coat the other night. I heard that NorthFace coats are good. Yeah, then I saw the $200 price tag! I settled for an Old Navy coat, which is actually pretty nice, but given the weather today, I wish I'd splurged. Sorry I made this all about me. Just wanted to let you know that I RELATE!!!!
